Some members of Bafa agreed to participate in a friendship block challenge with fellow members. Each individual set their own rules for their own chosen theme. Eleven members signed up to do it so it will go for 11 or 12 months, after which each participant will set and quilt the results. Each quilt will then be photographed for the record and exhibited at a later date. Below are the ones I have done so far. Jean's theme, Buttons, featured handpainted buttons (fig. 1). Lisa's theme, Pond Life, (fig. 2)., featured a red dragonfly from my own pond memory of my own red dragonfly who returned to the same plant every year. Sherry's theme was Vintage Linen (fig. 3). I used vintage in the center (stitcher unknown) then cut the corners from a linen napkin and worked the corners myself using lace and pearl cotton. There is leftover hexagon's and lots of thread work on Sylvia's flowers (fig. 4-6). I created a stamp for Jerry's Shamrocks (fig. 7) and thread painted over an acrylic ink under painting for Dot's Kookaburra (fig. 8). For Susan's Poppy, I did bead work on wool (fig. 9), my least favorite process so far although I have enjoyed exploring the various stitch and paint possibilities . Cathy's Passenger Pidgeon was thread painted then stitched to a stamped background (fig. 10). Lydie's Gifts came from France in a balloon invented in France and first flown in 1783 (fig. 11). Block Exchange is now done and groups are shown below (fig. 12-21). Finished quilts to be posted as they are shown to the group.
